What is Cosmoe?

Cosmoe is a new user interface that runs on top of the Linux operating system (and soon others). Cosmoe implements a powerful but easy-to-use high-level C++ API that is quite similar to BeOS. In fact, many BeOS programs can be recompiled to run on Cosmoe with little or no changes!

Cosmoe is not a polished, completed work yet. Most of the current work is going on "under the hood", so we don't have a lot of flashy graphics to lure you in. However, Cosmoe does have a very solid foundation, and we look forward to the involvement of the developer community in helping Cosmoe to mature.

News IconDecember 17, 2004 - A new release today! Version 0.7.2 addresses some of the more bothersome bugs in the 0.7 branch and adds the Haiku Registrar. Notable fixes are for a crashing bug when moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen, the ability to cleanly exit Cosmoe by just closing its main window, and some impressive speed-ups thanks to analysis using the oprofile profiler. This version of Cosmoe is the first to require SDL -- now it's not just a good idea, it's the law. Stay tuned on the Cosmoe list for new releases and updates.
